you should pick a body shop you trust and leave the car over there. call the insurance company and tell them to send the adjuster over to the location of the body shop. have the body shop point all flaws and negotiate with the adjuster. request that the check be made out to you and sent to your home address. you should get a copy of a detailed estimate from them along with the check. if you find you need more $$$, call the insurance back for a second adjustment. get a second check and go get your pulley =) this is exactly what i did and i struck a deal with the body shop for a good deal. you have the right to pick and choose your shop of choice and you have the right to have the check mailed to you. you can keep the money, fix the car with the money, etc. your choice. good luck.
